So, let’s get to know the individuals behind deverellsmith!

Meet Joseph Morris…

Can you explain what you do for a living and what you like to do in your spare time?
I am an Account Manager for deverellsmith, specialising in recruiting in to the senior and qualified accounting and finance market within the real estate sector.

I have recently become a father for the first time so that is certainly my focus at the moment, and most of my spare time outside of work is spent with my new baby.

Over the last month, what’s the biggest trend you’ve seen in accounting and finance hiring?
I have seen that there has been an increase in demand for candidates with a broader skill set and more commercial mindset. This has driven up salaries, bonuses, and benefits for candidates within the market.

What has been your most memorable hire since being at deverellsmith?
I recently completed a search for a Finance Director in San Francisco. It was for an intriguing client, a real estate developer looking to grow their team in the US. It was great to be part of what seems like an enthusing time for an expanding company.

How have you found settling back into work and balancing being a new dad?
Thankfully work have been wonderfully supportive. Taking time off for my paternity leave was strange, as it felt like I was gone for a lifetime, but it was only 2 weeks! I’ve been back for a little while now, and I’ve started to find a good balance in working hours now which means I still have quality time with my new daughter. Which is obviously most important.

What are your hobbies when not recruiting?
Well, I am a massive sports fan, so I enjoy playing football and watching practically any sport that is on the TV. Football, cricket, basketball, rugby… the list really does go on!

What did you get up to over the bank holiday weekend?
I spent my weekend seeing family and friends that haven’t met the baby yet which was lovely.
