Let’s get to know Verity…
Verity Hampson-Smith (Principal Consultant)…tell us what makes you, you!
I’m Verity and I joined the business earlier this year after relocating from Nottingham to London (for no other reason than I just love this city!) I have a massive family back home in Nottingham where I grew up with 3 sisters, 3 dogs and countless horses! This is my 6th year in recruitment, my earlier background was hospitality and events which allowed me to travel the world and work abroad, I also spent a few years as a wedding planner and attended over 100 weddings in one year!
You’ve travelled the world…what is the best trip you’ve been on?
I am an AVID traveller and get away at every given opportunity. My favourite places I have visited around the world are New York, Kos, Switzerland and most recently Glastonbury festival. I also lived in Australia for a year mainly in Sydney and I spent a few months in the outback living in a caravan with a stray cat we adopted from a pub car park. I don’t think there is anywhere in the world I wouldn’t enjoy visiting.
What is your proudest moment and why?
It is too hard to choose just one moment, especially one that centres around me. I never graduated from university or got married or had a child so I think my proudest moments are still to come. But when I see my friends and family achieving these things, when I watched my big sister say “I do” or when my best friend’s child comes over to show me her school report or when my mum, in her 50s, completed a university course to secure a promotion, those are the moments that fill me with pride!
What is your favourite thing about working in recruitment?
I love how every day is different, you meet people from all walks of life and build new relationships with people outside of your circle every single day.
I love the daily challenges and always competing with myself to give a better service than I did the day before.
I love not being confined to a single desk area for 40 hours a week.
Most of all I love being able to be 100% my true self whilst at work.
How would you describe your team in 3 words?
Jake, Verity and Chris. Work. In. Progress. Just kidding.
Collaborative, supportive and understanding.
What would you like to accomplish in the coming year at deverellsmith?
I would love to embed myself into the London market and expand my professional network here, developing a good reputation and building up a portfolio of good quality clients and candidates who trust me to do the job for them. This is way more important to me than making lots of money at this stage in my life.
What’s your favourite thing about your market?
Construction is a minefield that can never be completed, every day brings a new turn in the market, a new ‘life-changing project’, when one area of the industry fails another thrives, it really is a market that keeps on giving and continues to excite me consistently.
